Telecom giant Bharti Airtel is set to invest Rs 5 billion in its new data center business. The company will triple its data center capacity and invest in the next three to four years. Apart from this, Airtel will also increase the data center capacity through Nxtra. Nxtra is a division of Airtel whose primary focus is on the data center business. The data center business is expected to grow to $ 4 billion or nearly Rs. Airtel estimates that at $ 29.7 billion. Nxtra currently operates 10 large Edge data centers and 120 nationwide.

The company said it plans to grow its data center business to meet the needs of the country's fast-growing digital economy. The giant telecommunications company will invest Rs 5 billion by 2025 and parks will also be opened in major metropolitan cities of the country under this new data center. With this investment, Airtel's NXTra capacity will exceed 400 MW.

The company caters not only to India but also to neighboring countries.
Through this proposed Airtel investment, 7 new hyper-scale data center campuses will also be ready. With the expansion of the company's capacity, it will be able to meet the growing demand from the Indian market as well as from many neighboring countries such as Bangladesh and Nepal. According to Airtel, cloud adoption, growing economy and growing internet usage, government policies, and 5G technology are the main factors driving up demand for data centers.

India could become a data center in the next few years
According to Ajay Chitkara, Business Director and CEO, Airtel, India could become a data center in the next few years and find work in India from SAARC countries, which means the workload of SAARC countries can move to India. Data centers are powerful, so Airtel believes that smaller Asian countries can shift the workload to India. Airtel already has clients from other Asian countries. Airtel plans to run 50 percent of its units with green energy to reduce carbon emissions.
