Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by four runs in the 52nd match of IPL 2021. In this match played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, Hyderabad scored 141 for 7 after losing the toss and batting first. In reply, RCB could make only 137 for 6 wickets.
Sunrisers captain Kane Williamson was adjudged the man of the match, who scored 31 runs apart from Maxwell. With this win, the chances of RCB reaching the top-2 are almost over. On the other hand, this season of Sunrisers Hyderabad was just the third win.
de Villiers could not win the match
RCB needed 13 runs to win in the last over. AB de Villiers made the match exciting by hitting a six off the fourth ball after Bhuvneshwar Kumar scored a run in the first three balls. Then no run was scored on the fifth ball. In such a situation, RCB needed six runs to win off the last ball, but de Villiers (19 not out) could only score one run. Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddharth Kaul, Jason Holder, and Umran Malik took one wicket each for Sunrisers.
Maxwell's run out turned the game
Chasing a target of 142 runs, Bengaluru had a poor start and lost three wickets within seven overs. Captain Virat Kohli 5 runs, while Dan Christian returned to the pavilion after scoring another Srikar Bharat 12 runs. After this, second opener Devdutt Padikkal (41) and Glenn Maxwell added 54 runs for the fourth wicket to get RCB back in the match.
When it seemed that the two together would easily win the match for the team, only then Maxwell kept walking on a precise throw from Williamson. Maxwell scored 40 runs in 25 balls, which included three fours and two sixes. After this Devdutt Padikkal was driven by Rashid Khan, after which the RCB car derailed.
Roy-Williamson's key partnership
Earlier, batting first after losing the toss, Sunrisers had a bad start and they lost the wicket of Abhishek Sharma (13) on the score of 14 runs. After this Jason Roy (44) and Kane Williamson (31) took over the innings by adding 70 runs for the second wicket. Fast bowler Harshal Patel broke this partnership by bowling Williamson. Williamson hit four fours in his innings.
After this, Dan Christian dismissed Priyam Garg (15) and Jason Roy in the 15th over to reduce Hyderabad's score to 107/4. Then in the next over on the same score, Abdul Samad (1) was also out lbw off Yuzvendra Chahal, after which Sunrisers' team was seen struggling to score runs in the last overs. For RCB, Harshal Patel took three, and Dan Christian took two wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal and George Garten got one success each.
