Squid Game Oh Il-Nam
Squid Game Oh Il-Nam, Netflix

The end of "Squid Game" unleashes some rather unexpected plot twists: one that links Detective Hwang Jun-Ho to the leader of the masked men who run the game and another, more importantly, which reveals the true identity of Oh Il-Nam, the old man who befriends Gi-hun and who at the beginning of the competition reveals that he has a brain tumor.

In addition to being a contestant, Il-Nam was the founder and main financier of the game. A year after Gi-hun's victory, he contacted him to reveal his great secret and explain his motivations to promote the competition.

Knowing the truth, have you noticed that "The Squid Game" had left some clues about the identity of No. 001 throughout its first season? Screen Rant shared a list with some of the indications of this plot twist in the South Korean Netflix series.

CLUES TO THE TRUE IDENTITY OH IL-NAM

1. DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE FILES

In the fifth episode, while Jun-ho (Wi Ha-Joon) searches for clues to the whereabouts of his brother, he finds the files of all current and former players. In addition to discovering that the games go back decades, he shows that the last games folder does not show participant number 1 and skips directly to player 002.

2. HIS NAME MEANS "FIRST MAN"

The Korean character “일” or “Il” can mean day, work or first, and the character “남자” or “Nam” can be translated as boy or man, that is, Il-Nam would mean “first man”. Although it may be related to him being player 001, it could also refer to him being the founder of everything.

3. WAS NOT DETECTED IN THE FIRST GAME

In 'Red light and green light', it was noted that the doll does not actually scan the old man. While the rest of the participants of "The Squid Game" appear with a green cape, Il-Nam and the player near him had none. So the robot was programmed to save Il-Nam?

4. STOP FIGHTING IN THE BEDROOM

During a brutal fight in the bedrooms, the old man disappears and is only heard from again when the lights are turned on. After he asks to stop the fight, the workers and guards immediately interfere to regain control of the room.

5. RECREATED THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD TO PERFECTION

In the game of marbles, the Il-Nam neighborhood is exactly recreated, although for the rest of the participants and even for the spectators it is only the dementia of the old man. Also, when the camera scrolls to show dead players, Il-Nam's corpse does not appear.

WHEN WILL SEASON 2 OF “THE SQUID GAME” BE RELEASED?

The second season of "The Squid Game" does not yet have a release date on Netflix, but it is most likely that these new chapters will arrive on the streaming platform in early 2023.

Although everything will depend on the start date of the filming, it is worth noting that the recordings of the first installment were temporarily stopped in August 2020 as a preventive measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but for the new chapters these pauses would not be repeated. That is, production could move faster.

If the renewal is announced at the end of 2021, the filming of the new season could begin in the first months of 2022 and extend until the middle of the same year, with the post-production process included. At best, the second installment could hit the streaming giant in the final months of 2022, but 2023 seems like a more reasonable time.
