What If...? Marvel Studios, Disney+ |
Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has just taken its first steps and fans have been speculating heavily on the presence of a character who has not yet made an appearance.
Since the arrival of WandaVision to Disney +, fans began to theorize about Mephisto's involvement as one of the great architects of the fictional world in which Wanda lived. Chapter by chapter the followers of fiction waited for Marvel's version of the devil to reveal himself with the great villain of history.
However, Agatha Harkness (It's been Agatha all along) was the one pulling the strings of it all, and the show's screenwriter, Jac Schaeffer, admitted that she had never heard of Mephisto.
Then it was Loki's turn, starring Tom Hiddleston, and the speculation began again. Later the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home came out and once again fans began to question the identity of Doctor Strange and his strange behavior in the trailer sequences. And of course, What If ...? he also succumbed to speculation.
It was in chapter 4 of What If ...?, The MCU animated series, which posed alternative stories to those already known within the universe, that fans were convinced that they had seen Mephisto. It must be remembered that in said episode, Doctor Strange uses the Eye of Agamotto to try to change the past and prevent the death of Christine Palmer, which leads him down a dark path.
Director Bryan Andrews gave an interview to the Rotten Tomatoes site where he spoke about this particular episode and the possible presence of Mephisto.
“He absorbs a dragon, he absorbs [these creatures and] temporarily he is that thing because those things are really inside him. And so he gets the abilities from him, he gets all of those things. And they are ready at your fingertips. So we get that hybrid look where he has the horns and he looks very devilish. It's so funny how everyone says 'He's Mephisto'. But he was just a dragon! "Andrews said.
Again, it wasn't Mephisto. And although it is not out of the question that this character makes his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is safe to say that he has not had the appearance of him so far.
